February 2011

Dear Classmates,

As another winter blizzard blankets most of the country and we enter the Òdark ages,Ó just remember that there is still time to register for the Mid Term Reunion in San Diego! At the end of this note is a current list of classmates registered for the MTR.

We have a number of items to report this month, as well as a special request. Our Events Committee has selected the menu for the food stations for our Saturday night Soiree at the San Diego Maritime Museum. These will include a Spectacular Seafood Station, a Pasta Station, and a Carving Station, among others! You may even be able to show your OAO how to get an extra dinner roll or twoÉ

We are very pleased to announce that our Reviewing Officer for the MCRD Parade will be our classmate Vice Admiral David Robinson, who was awarded the Navy Cross for gallantry in combat in Vietnam.

As you know by now, we will have a Silent Auction to raise money for our Class Foundation and the Class of 1963 Center for Academic Excellence. In fact, the Auction has already begun! We have already received bids on three items! You are invited to bid now as well! The Catalog of items is available here: http://www.usna63.org/reunion/Catalog11-25-11.pdf. You can bid for any of these spectacular items by sending an email note to Mike Krause at mkrause63@optimum.net. Final bids will be taken, and the Auction will be ÒclosedÓ during the Saturday evening Soiree. If you would like to donate an item to this very worthwhile cause, contact Mike Krause and see the donation form under the ÒReunionsÓ page on our Class website at http://www.usna63.org/reunion/.

As a reminder, lots of questions about our MTR were addressed in ÒFrequently Asked QuestionsÓ which were published as part of our initial Registration Package. You can review these here: http://www.usna63.org/reunion/FAQs1014.pdf.

Slideshow for our Saturday Soiree.

We need copies of your old snapshots taken during our 'four years by the bay'. The MTR Committee plans to have a continually running slideshow of Class of '63 photos on display during the MTRÕs Saturday Night Soiree aboard the Maritime Museum.

The challenge is getting our hands on your prized pics. So here's what we recommend: Locate those great snapshots taken at the Academy, on cruise, at weddings, or wherever. Have them digitized at 300 dpi and email them to Steve Coester at scoester@cfl.rr.com, (copy to Jim Fontana at portside@aol.com). If you don't have the means to scan the photos into your PC at home, then most any place like Walmart or Costco will enable you to digitize them very cheaply. Once those 'glossies' are translated into ones & zeros, email them to Steve. He will integrate them into a slideshow. This is a great opportunity to remind everyone how buff you looked as a Mid.

So dig deep through those old albums and select your favorites 'cause we want to see them...and without your inputs we'll have nothing to display.
